عُرقت قديماً باسم جلفار، واشتهرت بتجارة اللؤلؤ الثمين. تتمتع الإمارة بموقع استراتيجي في الجهة الشمالية لدولة الإمارات على مدخل الخليج العربي، ويقسمها لسان مائي إلى شطرين، القسم الغربي، رأس الخيمة، والقسم الشرقي، المعيريض .
تمتلك حكومة دولة الإمارات، وكذلك شركات القطاع الخاص القنوات التلفزيونية والمحطات الإذاعية على المستويين المحلي، والدولي.
الضريبة لا تفرض دولة الإمارات ضريبة دخل على الأفراد، إنما تفرض ضريبة القيمة المضافة على معظم السلع والخدمات على كل مرحلة من مراحل سلسلة التوريد، ويتحملها بشكل أساسي المستهلك النهائي: كما تفرض أيضا الضريبة الانتقائية على سلع محددة تكون ضارة بصحة الإنسان أو البيئة، كما تفرض ضريبة الشركات على صافي الدخل أو ربح الأعمال.
تلعب الدولة دوراً رئيسياً في الحملات العالمية لمكافحة الإتجار بالبشر، والإرهاب، وكذلك المحافظة على احترام حقوق الإنسان.
الديــانة الإسلام هو الدين الرسمي في دولة الإمارات، كما يسمح للمقيمين بمُمارسة معتقداتهم الدينية في إطار سياسة التسامح والتعايش والدمج التي تنتهجها دولة الإمارات.
